i have a dvd player called v2go. it is not on the list of the philips “universal remote control” list, but the package claims that “guaranteed to work your components.”
so i am curious how they can make such a claim? how can this remote control work with all current and future products?
what is the engineering principle behind this?
No “universal” remote can operate all brands/models of equipment.
Inexpensive brands of TVs, VCRs, DVD players,
and the like are usually not accommodated.
Preprogrammed universal remotes are exactly that:
They have hundreds or thousands of pre-programmed
control commands stored in them.
If you had a Panasonic TV, a Toshiba VCR, and a Sony DVD player,
you would set the remote to transmit the specific command signals
that operate those brands of those types of devices.
“Learning” universal remotes record commands from device-specific remotes,
hence they can control anything for which a functioning original remote is available.
Some universal remotes combine preprogrammed codes and learning,
which simplifies and shortens the process of setting them up.
